We had a tremendous number of shoppers today for the NPSOT Austin native plant sale. It's heartening to see how many people recognize the importance of native plants, and want to plant some in their yard or patio. So many people were particularly interested in milkweed, too.

I'd like to share a huge thanks to those who bought plants and are about to plant them in their space. If you have questions on a particular plant, we have a native plant database on npsot.org where you can look up the plant and find out what kind of soil, sun and moisture are best for it, along with other helpful information. If you are new to native plants, be sure to consider the mature size of the plant when spacing it with others in your garden.

I'd also like to thank all the volunteers who made the sale happen. It's a huge team effort to get the plants from the growers to you through the sale. Also a deep appreciation for those who grow native plants, many of them volunteer their time to care for plants all year long.

Most importantly, the birds, butterflies, moths, bees and other wildlife appreciate you helping to increase native habitat in our part of Texas. Thank you, Austin!
