Went away for 6 weeks, and my Monstera went from photo 1 to photo 2 despite someone watering all my plants weekly (as had been my previous schedule). The soil is entirely dry while my other plants all have very moist soil.

I initially thought it was overwatered too but definitely looks like underwatering especially with the soil being so dry almost down to the bottom that it felt sandy – and she had watered only 4 days prior to me coming back.

The window is South facing but I live in Scotland so she thrives with this amount of sunlight.

Can anyone confirm of my suspicions are true so I can give better instructions on care next time I go away? It produced a glorious leaf in my absence so I'm thinking the plant killed off the oldest leaves for it with the lack of water it got?

Do I just cut the bottom leaf off or do I wait until the plant kills it off fully?

I would suspect that whoever watered didn’t give it enough water. Idk about you, but my large monstera takes about a gallon to a gallon and a half to thoroughly soak the soil all the way through. Another thing I wonder about is if the plant is getting super root bound and is just drying out faster. It is spring, so plants are growing more and quicker, and the weather is getting warmer. When was the last time you repotted it?
The leaf that’s dying off can be cut off if you don’t like the look. It won’t affect the plant since it has many leaves. I usually leave them off until they crisp up and I can pull the whole thing off, but it’s up to your preference.

yeah 100% people are so scared to overwater but they dont realise its frequency that rots plants and not quantity. even on plant subs, i always have to clsrify to new plant ownders that they NEED to water until all the water begins flowing out the bottom.
