STEVENS POINT — Gardeners looking to stock up for the growing season will have an opportunity next month as the Portage County Master Gardener Association hosts its annual plant sale.

The sale is set for Saturday, May 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Portage County Courthouse Annex, 1462 Strongs Ave.

Master Gardener members prepare for the event by digging and dividing perennials from their own gardens. The selection is supplemented with additional perennials and annuals from a nearby wholesale nursery. Shoppers can also expect to find native plants, herbs, vegetable seedlings, shrubs and houseplants.

Members will be on hand to answer questions, offer gardening tips and help visitors choose plants suited to their growing conditions. All plants will be labeled.

Prices typically range from $2 to $10, with the best selection available early in the sale. Cash and checks will be accepted.

Proceeds from the event support horticulture education programs, scholarships, school projects and public flowerbeds in the area.
