The other day we were picking up some mint and we noticed that many of the plants had something really similar to spit on the bottom of them. What can this be?
Could be spittlebugs! They make these foamy nests that look exactly like spit to protect their nymphs. I see this all time in my herb garden and it’s totally normal – just wash your mint before using and you’re good to go.

It’s a bug, the aptly named spittle bug. If you collect that whole mess you’ll find a little green nymph in it. They eat plants but they never do a lot of harm. I just try to not get it on me lol.

Coocoo spit
Boccus
When I was a kid, may dad called it snake spit as a joke. I went longer than I would like to admit believing it.

Don’t some butterflies also lay eggs like this?
