Was told by an aborist this tree has to go because of the fungus/mushrooms eating away at the structural integrity of the trunk. Big beautiful red oak, otherwise looks healthy. It's definitely in range of the house. He thought $7500 to $10k for removal but I'll have to quote that out with someone else. Everything sound correct to you all?

Fruiting bodies definitely is an indicator the tree is on its way out… it could last longer, it could get snapped in a large storm, hard to say. What’s the lean on the tree like? Leaning away from house or towards it? Any other high value targets in the area? The quote seems high but depends on a lot of factors and I ain’t going to step on any other arborists toes.

Yeah that doesn’t look good. I’m not from the US so can’t argue with the prices there. But it looks like there is good clearance to work. Looks like a prerty easy job 10k sounds insane to me.

I was just quoted 3k for a removal of one hanging over my house in NC. Price would be to high around there. And that was the high end of 3 quotes.

Especially red oak degrades VERY quickly after such a fungal infection. I’m rarely a worrier but I’d get that thing down, pronto. I’d expect 3-4 k for full removal. Stump extra.
