TULSA, Okla. — Milo’s Tea Company and Food On The Move partnered on Friday to support fresh food production for Tulsa families through a compost donation at a community garden site.

Milo’s Tea repurposes used tea leaves from its production process into compost at its facility. The company donated a load of that compost Tuesday morning to Food on the Move’s outdoor garden beds on Apache Street, just east of the Tulsa Community College Northeast Campus.

“This is kind of a new venture for us to be donating the compost now that we’re kind of getting roots here in Tulsa, so we’re always looking for partnerships to help take care of our community by donating the compost and helping grow food for our community,” said Bayli Scruggs, public affairs coordinator with Milo’s Tea.

The compost will be used to help grow a variety of produce for the community.

“We took the time to talk to our community and find out what kind of produce they wanted within our gardens and so we have cantaloupe, we have zucchinis, we have cucumbers, okra, a lot of greens, so lettuce and collard greens and other things that people enjoy on a daily basis,” said Ramal Brown, community outreach coordinator with Food On The Move.

Officials noted the donation comes shortly after Earth Day. Last year, Milo’s composted 30 million pounds of used tea leaves, keeping material out of landfills and benefiting the environment.
