Looking to get feedback from people who have used them. I have a zoysia lawn and a few compacted sections. Local quotes for 5k sqft aeration are $350+ and they rarely do a good job. So looking at buying this and see a lot of YouTube personalities promoting it.

yeah but only on my enemies, not any lawns
I’ve seen this before. Can’t remember if it was Saw IV or Saw V.
Dang and you said quotes, plural.. seems high.
I’m sure it’s fine if you want to put in 157 miles of walking over 8 days to aerate your 20×20 lawn.
How big is your yard and how many passes would it take if your aerator hits only an inch of width?
That looks like the biggest waste of time/effort I’ve seen in a while.
Jeez I pay $75 for 10k sq ft here.
Just rent one that isn’t made for skinny sidewalk buffer strips like this one seems to be.
You’d need to do it again by the time you got done bc it will take you 6 months
That looks like a huge waste of time, money, and effort. You can rent an aerator from Home Depot or Lowe’s for less than $100 and will be much faster and more thorough than this tool would be.
Not a rhetorical question, I genuinely don’t know much about aerating, but will that create holes that are deep and/or wide enough to make a significant difference?
I have one of these. It works, but it’s a lot of work. A LOT of cardio, especially if you have any elevation on your yard.
I have found that it does an okay job on my clay soil. It doesn’t always eject the plugs. Also, I wish the tines were longer, as it only penetrates approximately 2-3″. Others previously have commented saying it does a better job in ejecting with different soil types.
I have used mine to aerate my 9500sf of yard 3x. It took me hours of work each time, but I intentionally used it as a workout.
My version does not have the transport wheels, but to traverse over hard surfaces, you can unlatch the springs attached to the times, and it works alright.
Hope this helps
I actually bought this about a month ago. I think it’s pretty good. It is hard work, not going to lie. I only tried it out a little and will wait until fall to do the whole yard and my parents yard. Is it as good as one you could rent or hire? No. Is it better than nothing at all? Id guess yes. You have to do a lot of passes but the cores I’ve gotten have been consistent.
The most I’ve done is 4k sqft, double pass north/south, east/west. It’s a workout. It’s worth the investment. Make sure your soil has moisture in it, or the tubes will just bounce off the soil and won’t penetrate. It works great otherwise. Takes out about a 3” plug.
That’s not an aerator.
Assuming the saw teeth are there to stop skidding wouldn’t they work better facing the other way?
Regardless you can rent a motorized one for $60-70 and the hand one is $30. I got the hand one and just did my whole lawn over a few hours, it’s a good mindless activity. Just make sure you get one that pulls plugs, the nail ones don’t do much.
I recently bought one and used it. Solid product. Super sturdy. I would recommend it. I had multiple friends buy it after me after I shown them the video of how it unplugs. Makes funny noise, its actually nice. pop pop pop
I had a hard time filling it up with sand because the sand I ordered was a bit wet.
But it’s a one time thing so I dont think it’s a downside.
Aerated really nicely. This is the only aerator that works unless you have the budget to buy the big heavy machine. I have a 1500sq lawn, so this is perfect.
Hand held stomper core aerators are way too much work.
I opened the box and looked at the size of the tines and the very thin spring hangers and sent it back.
>see a lot of YouTube personalities promoting it.
I mean that right there should be a really big red flag. If all of a sudden multiple people are promoting something, they are probably getting paid to. That’s what these “influencers” do you know. They aren’t making money from the ads, they’re getting paid to promote stuff in most cases.
That exact thing is all across temu and alibaba for $150, which is a sign the design is hot garbage and ineffectual. Spend that money renting a real aerator once a season.
I have one. Worked good down in the houston area. 5k sq ft yard took about 2 hours. It ejected the plugs well. Only issues I had were in the spots that got a little too much water. Overall the cost of this will pay for itself after a couple of uses. It is a work out and about a 6-8 beer job to stay hydrated
Fuck that.
Rent a proper core aerator from home depot for like $50 and a couple hours of your time.
You’re better off calling around to rental places looking for a Billy Goat 25” PLUGR to rent, it’s the best piece of walk behind equipment for the job you’re going to find.
Get a manual one if it’s just a few spots. For $350 you may as well attach a hitch to your car, and rent one from the hardware store for $100. If that.
I have the older version of this without the wheels (which are a freaking awesome upgrade). Apart from the annoyingness to pull it over a hard surface (which the wheels fix), the one thing I feel the need to mention is that it is kind of a pain butt to do a large yard. With only one “line” of plugs, you literally have to pull this thing back and forth many times. What I have been doing is whenever I mow the lawn, I run it around the lawn once until I get tired of doing it, but when I did the initial aeration before I top-seeded, it took a long time and was a lot more work than I had expected.
Don’t work out in the morning the day you plan to do this…it’s all the gym time you need for that day.
Better off just renting an aerator from Home Depot or Lowes
