A Nottinghamshire dad nearly killed his son in a knife attack after a family argument escalated into horrific violence.

Anthony Kimberley, 59, stabbed his victim three times in the garden of his home on Garabaldi Road, Forest Town, Mansfield, at about 9.30pm on August 2 last year.

Jury members at a trial in January heard how Kimberley had rowed with his 39-year-old son about his grandchildren before the violent garden assault.

The attacked father-of-two, who suffered wounds to his chest and arm, was found collapsed in the street a short time later.

The blow to his chest punctured the membrane around his heart and he required treatment in intensive care.

Kimberley, arrested at the scene and also treated in hospital, gave no comment answers when he was interviewed by detectives the following day.

He was later cleared by a jury at Nottingham Crown Court of attempted murder but found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Appearing at the same court on Friday, April 17, he was jailed for 15 years.

He was also handed a restraining order forbidding any further contact with the victim.

Detective Constable Jemma Stuman, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The victim in this case could easily have died as a result of this very violent assault.

“Kimberley chose to arm himself with a weapon in the moments before this incident and should count himself lucky that his actions did not prove fatal.

“As he begins a very lengthy prison sentence I hope this incident serves as a warning to others – that if you pick up a knife in anger the consequences can and will be extremely serious.”
