was quoted $5,000 to do my front yard. Rented a tiller, bought some fertilizer, plants and mulch, and worked straight through a weekend. $1200 total. Sore, tired, and proud.

  1. Nice work! Be prepared for an onslaught of weeds. Weed seed from birds and the wind have been getting deposited into the soil for years and when you till you “wake” them up so to speak. The mulch will help but weeds are persistent. You’ll just want to stay at it. 10min every day is better than 2 hours every other week. Catch em before they go to seed.

If any of the newly planted plants die I recommend shopping for natives which are more beneficial to the local ecology (birds, bugs, bees, butterflies) and need no supplemental watering. If you’re interested in that you can check out local native nursery or online go to Prairie Moon nursery and filter for your state, water, and daylight and plant plugs that you like. They’ve got great photos and descriptions.
