This is the Vanda formerly known as Neofinetia falcata 'Tamakongo'. It came to me in spike last year from Andy's Orchids, this is the first rebloom. It is only scented at night, a marvelous and delicate vanilla and jasmine scent with hints of tiare. Truly intoxicating. I need this in a perfume.
It lives outside in Tampa, FL. I have previously not had great success with this species as it usually needs cool temps that I can't provide. However, this one was listed as tolerant of extremes and leaning warm. I had my doubts, but it seems quite happy, even though it (briefly) experienced 100F temps last summer. In the winter I brought it inside a few times when the temps would be below 45F.
Care is simple. It is in bright shade with lots of air movement. I water it every morning with a spray bottle of distilled water. When it was really hot last summer, I added another watering in the afternoon.
