I have so many stray cats around that this hight of bird house would strongly decrease lifespan of any bird inside, and being so close to people is not an environment to breed I really can't see this hack to work …
I think you have bluebirds and bluejays confused. Bluejays territorial. I don't know if they eat berries but that's probably ok because lettuce doesn't make berries.
The only downfall of having a bluebird box is the house sparrows like to invade and drop out the eggs then eventually take over. And you don't want those in your garden I've been dealing with them for the past 2 years and had to take mine down
Super smart idea and I love the idea of using every inch. Just keep in mind the amount of bird poo that will collect directly under the box. lettuce may be too fragile to simply hose off before eating. Maybe some cucumbers and trellis them up the pole a little?
ccording to the Audubon Society, Blue Jays are omnivorous with a diet comprising up to 75% vegetable matter, including acorns, nuts, seeds, and berries. They are highly attracted to backyard feeders offering peanuts (in shell), sunflower seeds, suet, and cracked corn, preferably in tray or hopper feeders.
Eastern bluebird
Feeding Behavior
Does much foraging by perching low and fluttering down to the ground to catch insects, often hovering to pick up items rather than landing. The Eastern Bluebird also catches some insects in mid-air, and may take some while hovering among foliage. Feeds on berries by perching or making short hovering flights in trees.
I'd take a board and screw it in with the bucket between the board and post. Otherwise all it takes is a little gust of wind and the screw you put in the bottom of the plastic pot just pulls clean through and tips over.
I watched on YouTube…. a lady painted some small rocks red. She spread them around her strawberry plants about a month before they had berries. She said the birds would peck the sm red rocks, eventually figured out it wasn't good, and they didn't eat her berries. Not sure if it works, but I'm going to try it . Just an FYI …I do like this idea though. Just worry about the bird poop on the greens ๐ฎ
The only question I have is about the micro plastics, getting into the really nice soil you used and then how long is that pot gonna last sitting in the sun isnโt just gonna start breaking apart
Might be a dumb question I don't know alot about birds lol but what's stopping the birds that eat your berries from just staying at the bird house? How do you know it will attract a blue bird specifically??

So, we're going to act like he didn't put that Little Shop of Horror-Audrey ll in that soil.๐๐๐๐

I dont have problems with birds eating my berries. I have problems with deer and bears.
I have never seen any bird and no bluebird use a birdhouse setting that low !
I must have missed, how does this protect berries?

He means Blue Jay birds
SMART MOVE ๐ฏ๐ฏ๐ฏ
Putting the bird house on that fence would have saved yourself a whole lot of work and time.
I donโt have bluebirds. I have annoying Blue Jays and robins that eat my blueberries.
My issue is with the squirrelsโฆ I found my watermelon sprouts out of the soil and a black walnut in their place. The same in the strawberry bed
Bird droppings on lettuce? Maybe plant flowers only.
Sorry bud the bluebirds and Blue Jays are both omnivores and they do eat fruit

Raining poop! You may want to put something else like nonedibles and flowers under the birdhouse.๐
Meanwhile Iโve got cardinals and blue birds in the same backyard

Have you ever thought of getting a predator sound machine for birds, we have one at work and it scares them away instantly
Took bad birds haven't leaned to eat Japanese beetles yet.
Not that close…but good idea

Cpuld use a peat alternative since youre not really growing anything dramatic. We gotta do what we can to protect the wild peat!
How can I keep the squirrels out of my strawberry babies.
Wow… that is never going to last, but it's cute… The crows are gonna love it
Unfortunately it would be hard to prevent any bird from using the birdhouse so you may end up with a species that eats berries.
Smart idea๐
U using a treated green post so you r poisoning your food you grow
You r a idiot
I see that you didn't add a single berry plant to your berry bucket.
How many things did you plant in there? Greens and?
The only problem with bird houses is they almost always end up being wasp houses.

Now the birds will shit on your veggies!!! Yummy
I love everything about this video ! Subbed โค๏ธโ๐ฅ thanks for the good info
The bird poop on the food below you are growing will make you sick.
Thanks for sharing.

Why are you trying to feed the bird that only eats insects? If you're trying to get the bird that's eating your berries?
What if you have a bird dog?!? ๐ seriously, I have a gsp.
That little hummingbird just watching ๐ he wants a house too.
Studies show we can consume a credit card worth of microplastics a month. Stop putting everything in plastic.
– its unstable.
– birdhouse too low. CATS
Don't want a season worth of bird poop on my veggies that l might eat raw! Birds can carry bird flu, l do agree put the birdhouse on the fence!
