  1. What a beautiful place to wander. A Pileated Woodpecker landed on one of our stacked log piles; when it began pecking, a cloud of what looked to be small white moths went flying everywhere! It’s one of my favorite garden memories. 🌸🐝

  2. Nice to see a Kolkwitzia! Had to learn it in college at the Clemson Hort Gardens (now SC Botanical) but don’t think I’ve ever seen it since!

  3. Thanks, Jim. Oh my gosh, the moment I saw “First Viewer Garden Tour in Raleigh,” my whole spirit did a joyful little hop like it had just been handed a fresh tomato straight off the vine, because wow, nothing thrills me more than a garden tour that isn’t staged, filtered, or curated by someone who alphabetizes their seed packets for fun, and goodness, it instantly reminded me of the time I gave my own first garden tour and my inner voice went “Luise, act normal,” while my other voice screamed “girl, you have a dead plant behind you, pivot the camera NOW,” and ha!, the chaos that followed was unreal because I ended up giving a 12‑minute TED Talk about a single marigold that survived a storm like it was a war hero; and oh wow, Raleigh gardens always have that magical mix of “I planned this” and “nature did whatever it wanted,” which is honestly the same energy I bring to productivity and communication, because half the time I’m organized and the other half I’m just hoping no one notices the metaphorical weeds; and phew, your title made me feel like I was about to step into someone’s backyard kingdom where every plant has a personality, every path has a story, and every gardener has at least one traumatic memory involving squirrels, and let me tell you, that’s the kind of authenticity that makes my heart grow three sizes; so now I’m curious… what was the one plant in that Raleigh garden that made you stop, stare, and whisper “well, I wasn’t emotionally prepared for that today”?

  4. Well Yay, me!! I'm helping the environment 'cuz I have a lot of brush piles!
Lovely garden. I stopped around 15:30 to go close the back door and find the bird that got in. Spent 10 minutes replaying that bit, loud, quiet, mute, before I realized the bird was there not here!!

  5. Jim. Wonderful garden! I enjoy hearing how others handle deer, rabbits, voles, etc pressures. I have always wanted to know how gardeners handle their extra seedlings & nursery cans. Starting a “Seed Library “ is an excellent concept. Glad to know where we can get more info about how to start one in my community. It’s not just about cataloging seeds!!💚‼️

  6. I already have some coneflowers blooming, which is unusual but the winter + heat + drought probably triggered them early

  7. The reason I like this garden is that it looks like a normal persons garden, lol. A bit messy, kinda chaotic, but still plenty orderly at the same time and it's beautiful because of it. My kinda garden.

  9. Beautiful garden! So excited that Steph has identified a plant that I have been searching for. More than 40 years ago, we had a Kolkwitzia in the front yard, just under the upstairs master bedroom window. When in flower, the scent was just intoxicating! Now I know what to search for! Thank you Steph!

  10. Hi Jim, Stephanie, Eric, and Marie 👋 What a wonderful garden tour. I really appreciate you sharing this with us. Beautiful! Jen Z9b Texas Gulf Coast

  11. Thanks for inviting us along!
Love the ending part where he mentioned nice to be around with same interests and no gloom and doom!

  12. Really love this type of natural garden. I’d love to see it in the heart of summer with all of the perennials in bloom.

  13. Great video, Jim. I like that you highlighted the brush pile and some of the re-wilding on the property. Too many homes are neatened to the point of sterilization these days.

  14. I love the idea of the seed library – sharing seeds, plants, tools, knowledge and passion!! What a wonderful community. This garden is beautiful while maintaining its natural existence. 'Gardeners and gardening provide hope'…. I love that ❤ Thank you to the homeowners and also Jim and Stephani.

  15. Another wonderful garden tour. I really enjoyed the stroll through this garden. Love and blessings ❤️❤️❤️
