I don’t know if it was adding a $20 tip or saying I’d take logs or the massive rain and storms we’ve had lately but I put in my request on Wednesday last week and Friday I got a call from the arborist that they’d deliver either Saturday or Monday.

Monday at 1pm they rolled up with 12 yards of freshly chipped maple (no logs) and I spent 5 hours both praising my new Gorilla Cart and cursing myself and my silly ideas and I’m nowhere near finished 😂

It could be a lot worse. It could be 12 yards of 4 inch goose egg river stone. That’s what I did last summer, by hand as well.

  2. HottieMcHotHot

I put in my request yesterday and now I’m scared.

But it’s going to be ok. It’s going to be ok….

  3. duarte1223

I did this last year and it took me and my tiny wheelbarrow two hard weekends to get it where it needed to be

  4. Reepergrimrim

lol I was like, “ welp that’s a Cbus thang”

    Enjoy your chips!

Why not in the driveway Instead of blocking public sidewalk?

  6. dreamgirl42069

Oh christ. This is why I’m too scared to try chip drop lol, I would never be able to move this all in an acceptable amount of time.

    You’re a trooper!!

  7. Recencybias3

I’ll be right over to help and will bring my wheelbarrow.

Lord I have seen what you have done for others and I want that for me 😢

We live in a rural area and have been on a wait list for years lol. I would have such a time with our tractor’s front end loader.

    Give some to neighbors 🤓

Just had ptsd from the time I had a pile like that dumped in my yard except it wasn’t wood chips it was rocks.

My dad lives in a rural area, on 200+ acres. He knows people with the local tree service used by the state/county and now anytime they’re doing tree work anywhere remotely nearby they drop their chips on his farm. In the last month I think he’s gotten 10 loads… the pile he has is like OP’s but a solid 100 yards end to end…. He uses that shit for everything hahaha

  12. Product_ChildDrGrant

Mine is about the same size, if not more. I’ll be working on this the for the next month.

Detroit area? This looks just like GP

  14. faco_fuesday

If you get more mulch than you can use, post on CL or your neighborhood FB pages or whatever for people to come get it. It’ll be gone in a day or two.

  15. ASUS_USUS_WEALLSUS

Yup I think the small tip really speeds up the process

    Chip drop never disappoints.

    It often overwhelms

  17. melteddutchbros

Chipdrop is insane. I submitted a request at 4:15 PM and by 5 PM there was a truck outside my house with a load. I almost panicked LOL it said fast but I never anticipated THAT fast!

  18. enblightened

great it worked out for you. they dropped some awful eucalyptus crap for us unfortunately. Now we just moved to an area with plenty of timberland, so i don’t forsee us needing to chance a chipdrop again for mulch

Would a leaf blower work in this situation?

  20. VoiceArtPassion

It has taken a year to get through my pile! But the stuff that’s still piled up is CHOC full of mycelium!!

  21. spilt_milk

This was me and a bunch of garden soil last year. I think it took a couple weeks to move it all on my own into four raised beds using a Gorilla cart and a snow shovel. Hard work, but worth it in the end.

  22. GukuYarek

lucky, i waited since mid august till 2 weeks ago to get mine.

  23. Historical_Safe_836

lol at that little blue tarp

  24. SeesawPrize5450

No they dont ! but from experience look out for debri other than whats typically in a mulch pile ! We found some wild stuff in our pile

  25. SilverMcFly

I made friends with a local tree cutter who was more than happy to drop a shitload in my yard. We all spent the next week moving them everywhere. My chickens spent about 3 days saying “nah, they look better over here”.

I still haven’t finished moving the pile but absolutely will do it again.

  26. Mikey_Wonton

This has to be a suburb of Detroit

  27. Sonoran_Dog70

I get a drop every couple years. Cover my entire backyard with it. Living in the desert, it really helps maintain some moisture in the ground. Then breaks down and feeds my barren desert soil.

  28. Fluffy-Housing2734

I’m getting to the point where I think I need to get a skid steer or something like that. For as much mulch as I need and the realities of aging, it’s getting to be time. I’m on almost an acre and have been trying to kill a lot of my lawn. I cannot understate how much my soil has i.proved after 6 years of applications. I have hard gum o clay soil and I can now just dig a hole and put things in. It’s glorious.

For all the newbies out there, a pitchfork is a must. And sometimes it’s easier to load it into a Rubbermaid garbage can as it holds more volume.

For when it gets down to the very end, a plastic snow shovel is good for scraping together those last bits into a pile.

  29. Repulsive-Ad-8757

Uhg I haven’t been able to use mine cuz it won’t stop raining!!! 😑 So it just sits.

  30. Sad_Driver_765

Careful to not leave it out too long, or it’ll start to mold. Happened to ours.

  31. PuzzleheadedNovel474

Houses looked familiar, then recognized the car. Howdy, neighbor! Enjoy your mulch.

  32. olov244

I put in my request 3-4 months ago and nothing. My town has chips from line maintenance so I’m getting it there. Wish they’d do a drop though, I could probably use two

  33. ToffeeKitty

Lucky! Been signed up for CD for a couple of years and still waiting for chips.

  34. Oh, I feel pity for your back and your muscles. I’ve done that twice, and I didn’t enjoy it.

  35. dogsRgr8too

If you aren’t already using a 10 tine pitchfork, it’s totally worth buying for this project.

  36. Kellbows

I’m jealous. I turned in a request July 2023 that I keep updating. There was a tornado a couple years back, and I’m literally on a main road to travel to the dump. I could’ve saved them some gas. I’ve seen so many chip trucks go by.

  37. ScrotumNipples

Good thing you laid down that tarp!

  38. analogpursuits

    Shape the mound into buttcheeks.
