The idea is. Once they have a few years to grow. There will be a cactus fence around the fence fence. Two layers of security to keep the javalina out. A physical deterrent. And also. Why go to all the trouble of breaking into the garden to eat my expensive (and bitter tasting) trichocereus. When you can just eat the prickly pears right there anyway? So it's a physical barrier. And a decoy. And also. Just. A big purple circle of prickly pear around the garden will look pretty and interesting and stuff.

It’s a bunch of photos of baby prickly pear paddles growing out of the propogations. Except for the last picture which zooms out a little to show the fence fence and some of the trichs in the background.
Eves needle also works well as fencing to deter critters. Including humans.
This is a cool concept. I like the idea of having a cactus fence. A cactence if you will.
My purple opuntia doesn’t stay purple 😫 but they are great graft stock
Watch for spines while working near them, they just get into the soil eventually.
I have baby purple pricklies that are growing crazy but the one pad I’ve had in the front yard for months hasn’t produced shit 😭
Where is the pterodactyl?
It will work well for your lifetime. But whoever inherits your garden will curse you 😂
