Hi all!
I have had this traditional s shaped elm for a while and really havent done anything to it and its way over grown and super leggy. Im familiar with the elm growth patterns buy just keeping it alive while i attend to my other stuff (juniper and pines) but not sure if i can cut where i marked it in the first pic?
Inspo is something like the third pic. I just dont know if i can cut back to no branches at all. I dont particularly like where that first branch is located and its a bit think to bend up into the next truck.
Thanks!

i would move the cut just above the first branch, it’s only a few millimetres away…
your elm looks healthy, if you had* to cut where you indicated, it would definitely back bub
$0.02…
Technically yes – Elms are relatively hardy. However, the best time to cut is early spring prior to buds popping as the stored energy will all be redirected to producing new buds from the stump. You can also consider cutting just above the lowest branch and use that as the new leader as it’s got good movement to the right.
I agree with the others saying you shoyld cut just above the first branch… It really has a nice movement and good structure to make something beautiful!
I don’t think so
