Favorable weather and blooming spring landscapes brought steady crowds to the Piney Hills Louisiana Master Gardeners’ annual “Trails & Trellises” garden tour on Saturday, April 18.
Rain held off until the afternoon, leaving the morning overcast and comfortable for visitors strolling through four featured gardens across Minden. Attendees moved from site to site throughout the day, with each location reporting strong turnout and guests taking time to enjoy the flowers, scenery, and garden designs.
The tour included the Jeanne Wiggins Garden at 1486 Almond Circle, also known as Whispering Creek Farm, where visitors explored island beds surrounding mature trees and a wide variety of plantings, including azaleas, roses, iris, lilies, hydrangeas, and hostas. Native vines climbed trellises, while statuary, water features, and large iron ore rocks added visual interest. A pond on the property attracted migratory waterfowl, and a plant sale offered perennials and bulbs.

At 244 Chrislo Drive, the Renee McCollum White Garden provided a “Garden of Moments,” with winding paths, benches, and clusters of flowers creating a series of small destinations. Stone pavers and structured seating areas blended with natural plantings to form a cottage-style landscape.

The Toni Hooper Garden at 1503 Eames featured a manicured lawn, colorful flower beds, and a central fountain surrounded by day lilies. Visitors also explored a backyard space designed for relaxation, complete with a porch swing, blooming roses and hydrangeas, whimsical folk art, and an outdoor kitchen where refreshments were served.

The Syble McCleskey Garden at 210 Sugar Creek Loop showcased approximately 1½ acres of landscaping, including mature oaks, pines, and native trees. The garden, currently undergoing revitalization, featured vintage azaleas, new rose and wildflower beds, and a variety of garden art, including metal pieces, glass totems, and rustic elements.
