Found this lil fatty when tilling up my garden beds to get ready for seeds and starters (I add more soil and compost every year before planting). Took it out and got rid of it, but wondering there are more underneath the soil that are going to destroy my future tomatoes and if there’s anything I can do to prevent that.
Thanks!

Worth noting: found in the same bed as my tomato plants from last year, never had a hornworm problem during that year, or any years previous!
It could honestly be any sort of hawk or sphinx moth pupa. You have several native to your area in addition to introduced tomato hornworms.
Scrolling too fast. Thought you were holding a severed finger 😳

That “lil fatty” is the stuff of gardener nightmares! Honestly, finding them now is a blessing compared to finding your tomato plants headless in July. Keep digging, the hunt is on!
