I’m in Seattle, WA and trying to redo my lawn which has been neglected for years before I moved in. It was very heavy in moss and getting worse. I used Moss Out (granular first, did not work well, then I used liquid until 99% of the moss turned black).
I waited ~7 days for the moss to die out. However, after power raking (lower level, 3 passes), I found it really hard to hand rake all of the dead moss out, although I already collected a huge amount of thatch. There’s still some dead moss stuck there that I can’t hand rake out (pic. 2). I can only hand pull them off.
I have a 3000 sq ft yard and don’t know what to do now. Can I aerate, apply a thin layer of topsoil, and then start over seeding? Will the remaining dead moss be a problem?

If the grass is dead, its best to turn/rip up the dead grass first, seed, then cover with soil after overseeding.
Dumping seed on top of dead grass and watering it will just feed the birds and leave you with dead grass still.
Scarify the living piss out of it to get rid of dead material and then you’re good to go
Overseed? There is nothing there
