This is how i learned i have mice in the room currently housing my seedlings. These cauliflower were 5-6 weeks old. I’ll have to buy some seedlings elsewhere this year, not enough time to start over.
earlier this year i started some sungold tomatoes and i had the bright idea of starting them with some compost i had outside in my compost bin. it was full of rolypolys and earwigs, the works.
they would sprout, and then next day just completely devoured. they wiped them all out.
and i paid like, what, 5 bucks for 10 seeds? thats not cheap!

Damn that sucks. My first wave got eaten by something in the garden. Sometimes they send up suckers. I can get cabbage after sowing seeds in may. It’s worth a try.

It happened to me this year too. Only the 2nd time in 15 years. They ate the tops off of all my seedlings so I started them again. But 1/2 hadn’t germinated yet so I watered and waited. After 2 weeks I realized they had dug through and eaten all the seeds too. Oh, but they only nibbled on the celery and totally left the asparagus alone.
But this year we are having a long cool spring which is astounding. So, it’s working out O.K. anyway. Cheer up. It’s still early.
