Looks like I got new neighbors!

Just noticed this today! Heard some baby bird chirping and thought it was a bit loud just to find out they’ve made a birds nest on my post on my porch!

I don’t want to evict them since I do adore having them around but worried about potential bird poop scattered all over my front porch.

What should I do?

Nothing. Enjoy the experience and feel lucky they chose you.

If they are Wrens, they are pretty cool little friends. If they are House Sparrows, those invasive little punks need to be evicted and eliminated.

Bird poop washes off. Enjoy your birb family, and if you want to have extra fun, put up a camera to let you watch the nest.

Once the nest is empty, you can use cement board to fill in that corner so that birds cannot nest there in the future.

Tbh if they’ve already hatched chicks, they’re almost done!

Fun gross fact: many baby birds produce fecal sacs, basically a poop bag that they give to the parent bird, who then takes it away from the nest. It helps hide their presence from predators and also keeps your patio relatively clean!

You should consider yourself very lucky 🙂 it is a good omen 🙂

Leave ’em be and decide you’re okay with a little bird poop

Aww, I would probably enjoy them. Could you put paper down on the porch below the nest if you are worried about poop? After they are done with their nest for the year, you can put rocks in the corners to discourage it in the future. That’s what we do. But I would let them stay since they have cute babies.

Are there eggs yet? No? You can yeet the nest. They’ll rebuild. They do it pretty fast – found half a nest in a blower I left unattended for a couple of hours. Eggs? Buy a pressure washer and wait it out.
