Ive been using this hydroponic cloner for about 6 months and I can’t remember any of the other clones looking like this. Any idea what would cause the area that I scraped to completely shed off? It first turned brown then slowly started peeling off before stopping where the roots are now coming out. Y’all think they will be good to go after the roots become more established or am I cooked?

Are you supposed to scrape that much off? I thought it was just the thin membrane on the outside which is super thin

    Should be fine.

If anything, maybe do a fresh reservoir water swap out and insure clean water is present.

They are just starting to root which is a good sign. Should be fully rooted in another 6-10 days.

You may have scraped away too much of the cell walls which ended up dying and sliding off but with the presence of newly formed roots, I don’t think that’s going to matter at this point.

Id just be worried about dead, decaying plant matter being a vector for all kinds of diseases by sitting in that water so I would just do a clean water swap and call it a day.

Only thing I would say is, I have never submerged any section of the stem. The high humidity and oxygen levels will create roots that reach to the water after about a week. Sometimes my brother pushes clones through the clone plugs in his trays and I see this similar thing happen just from them touching a very thin layer of water.

Make sure you sterilize all your equipment and tools. Make sure your water is clean. It’s very easy to introduce pathogens into cones/mom plants. I do pathogen testing in a mom room/clone room/veg room. If anything gets slimy, or roots look yellowish moving forward clean the reservoir very well and it might get better.

the best way I found to start a good root system for DWC is small rock wool cubes than a 16 oz solo cup of cocco-perlite mix -ask Gemini

What’s your water temp?? Did you clean the cloner good in between uses?

Get you a aquarium thermometer as soon as you can and keep the water temp under 73 degrees to keep bacteria/algae from growing in the cloner. I like to keep my water temp 68-72 degrees. Also when I clean my cloner I like to use hydrogen peroxide at a ratio of 1/5 mixed with water. Clean everything then rinse everything off good. I like to take some more 1/5 water and hydrogen peroxide solution and run it in the cloner for about a hour or so to clean the pump/spray manifold out. Also I keep my stems out of the water in my area cloner too. To keep the water temp where it needs to be you can either plug the pump into a timer or keep switching out frozen water bottles.
