PADUCAH — The Paducah Garden Club’s “Among the Dogwoods” show opened Wednesday, offering some unbe-leaf-able displays.
The free show will continue from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday, April 16, and features club members’ entries in Floral Design, Horticulture, and Photography.
According to the garden club, the show’s purpose is threefold: to set standards of artistic and horticultural excellence; to broaden knowledge of horticulture, floral design, conservation, photography and other related areas; and to share the beauty of a show with fellow club members and with the public.
“Every other year we try to do a flower show,” said Carolyn Perry, co-chair of the show. “We have a lot of other gardens that we support — Whitehaven, the entrance of Noble Park — we have many ways that we can give back to the community, but we’re very proud to offer a flower show that’s as magnificent as this.”

Co-chair Juliana Harrison emphasized the educational aspect of the event. “(The community) can come down and find which plants do well in this area by looking at our board specimens,” Harrison said.
The Paducah Garden Club dedicated the show to the annual Dogwood Trail, the city of Paducah, and the Civic Beautification Board. The event also highlights Paducah’s City Hall as well as the quilts displayed there by Paducah Stitch ‘N Quilt Guild.
According to the club, Paducah florists will also be participating in a “Flower Flash,” with spontaneous explosions of flowers popping up in downtown locations.
