Just got these blueberries. I went to clean them so my kiddos can eat them and noticed they looked off. Lots of brown all over them. Of the 3-4 I squished none of them looked or felt like a typical blueberry. What’s going on with them? Are they safe to eat?

  1. These are store bought? Looks like they are past their freshness date and should be tossed

They look over ripe and a little bruised up. Bigger ones then to get beaten up easier. Like they’ve been tossed around too much and are quickly heading toward rot.

If they still taste ok, I recommend giving them a good rinse then freeze them for cooking later if you don’t intend to eat them all soon.

At the grocery store we would soak them briefly in a mild bleach water bath then rinse to extend their life before putting them out but when they look like this they don’t last more than a day usually.
