ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) – A Delta County non-profit is helping disabled veterans grow their green thumb.
Raven Wood Gardens is offering raised garden beds as part of the “Honor Bed” program.
Disabled veterans can contact the non-profit to get the garden bed and also benches and bird feeders for their property at no charge.
The veterans can keep the bed for at least five months.
Raven Wood Gardens President Louanne Bates says the program will help build a network of veterans supporting each other.
“We might get together and do a cookout, if they’re interested,” Bates said. “It might be part of their application so that they’re staying connected. It’s not just set up a garden and go; we do want camaraderie.”
You can contact Raven Wood Gardens by email at gracelouanneb@gmail.com or call the non-profit at (906) 221-1705.
