I feel like something is going on with my pear tees. I planted them only 4 weeks ago and they are looking limp and not quite right. Something is also eating the leaves, maybe caterpillars?

I also feel the leaves aren’t a result of autumn? I had another type of ornamental pear in my last place and it never looked like this.

It’s planted in our retaining wall with a mixture of compost and top soil however soil below is heavy clay. I did test the ph and it was alkaline so did try to amend it. Also added Osmocote slow release fertiliser at planting and have been giving it some seasol.

Not sure how else I can fix this? I don’t seem to be having any luck with my new plants in this backyard so it’s driving me crazy 😞

I have planted lots of these. To me, yours simply look very dehydrated. They love a big drink.

Personally I think it is a terrible time to plant. It wants to slow down and hibernate. You want to water it and get it established.

I like mid winter for anything deciduous. Plenty of time to get adjusted through spring before hot weather. Not much else happening in the garden in winter.
