Different ones are busy getting everything spruced up for the many visitors Carlinville is expecting to receive for Earth Day and the Jubilee that will be held in June.

Bobbi Bates, Carlinville’s Economic Development Coordinator and Mary Tinder, Ambassador for Tourism, were cleaning up and laying down mulch at the Route 66 Pollinator Garden at the Cannonball Jail on Saturday April 11. They were using the garden as a test plot for trying out different types of mulch. The mulch they were using included Pine bark (brown), black mulch, Cedar, Cypress and Red mulch which was graciously donated by Walmart. Another flower bed nearby contained pecan shells. In honor of Route 66 100 years, the mother/daughter duo got creative and made a “66” design using different color mulch.

Master gardeners were out on Monday, April 13, labeling the different mulches for an educational activity for Earth Day. These master gardeners and some other helpers were also fixing up the flower beds around the County Courthouse. Chad Reeves, a county employee, and different “trustees” assisted in digging holes to replace plants on the courthouse lawn.
