The Master Gardeners of Hamilton County, in association with the University of Tennessee Extension, continue their monthly series of Third Saturday Free Gardening Classes this Saturday at 10 a.m., with “Personal Flower Arranging: Bouquets & Boutonnières” taught by floral designers Pam Guinn and Sarah Monroe.
MGHC’s Third Saturday Free Gardening Classes take place at the UT-TSU Hamilton County Extension Center, 6183 Adamson Circle, off Bonny Oaks Drive in Chattanooga. Sign up to attend here.
Master Gardener Debbie Bauder said, “Personal flowers are those a person carries at a wedding or special event, including bouquets, boutonnières, hair flowers, petal baskets and even floral pet collars.
For prom, pocket boutonnières are a great way to stand out in the crowd, and the trend these days is to choose hand bouquets rather than wrist corsages.
“In this class, floral designers Pam Guinn and Sarah Monroe will teach the ins and outs of making personal flowers, focusing on pocket boutonnières and small hand bouquets. In the workshop portion of the class, those attending will learn to make individual small bouquets. Attendees should plan to bring a flowers from your local grocery store and a ribbon of your choice. All other supplies will be provided to create a lovely personal flower arrangement.”
An experienced floral designer, Ms. Guinn has studied under notable floral designers and enjoys learning new techniques. In 2002 She was named Chattanooga’s Designer of the Year. She has been helping families at Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist for more than 15 years.
Ms. Monroe earned Journeyman and Wedding certificates from Halls Atlanta School of Floral Design, and has taken many additional classes on floral design. She enjoys making garden-style floral arrangements and learning new techniques and design styles. She has been working with Ms. Guinn at Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist for four years.
