Friday morning starts dry for the first time as I tackle post-flood storm damage in my overgrown tropical garden and backyard golf course.

For the first time in days, my backyard golf course looks dry on the surface — except for a few patches. The storm has finally passed, and the well water has stopped rising just inches before disaster.

With the worst behind me, it was time to assess the damage and get to work. Today’s job: clearing the future vegetable patch, overgrown with tall grass, weeds, and broken stems from the heavy rains and wind. 🌧️🌿

Armed with my trusty (and mystery-branded) hedge trimmer — possibly Chinese, maybe Japanese, and oddly featuring a German flag — I dove into the task. It’s not the perfect tool, but it’s done me proud for over 3 years. A little back pain and dull blades didn’t stop the progress.

🎥 This time-lapse shows the real pace and hard work behind building a DIY tropical garden beside my backyard golf green. I finish up by checking the water level, which is finally below ground, meaning my Bermuda grass is safe! I also replaced the floodlight for a beautiful nighttime view. 🌙
