So I bought this cattleya earlier this year and of course I left it sitting in the moss it came in, didn’t move it until days later (by that time the roots were all dead! Root rot! I had to chop them all off and then freaked out when the leaves started withering. I looked online and watched several videos. I ended up deciding to place it with a bit of moss and bark, cover it with a plastic bag, spray a bit of water in the actual bag and close it off and let it be and watered it once a week, I’d add fertilizer (I wasn’t sure what to do) long behold one root started growing!it did have a set back when I went away for vacation, the root died but I continued to water it and spray water in the bag. Anyway about 2 months later this is the result! I’m in new to orchids and have started growing them for the past 2-3 years. This is my first cattleya! I almost killed it, but I’m so proud it’s alive again! 😭😂☺️

Good for you! I don’t know sh!t about Cattelyas.

I went to an exotic plant shop recently and they had some neat stuff but mostly I saw firsthand how different some other varieties are from the grocer-phals I’ve come to love. Likely still try it tho.

Love your root growth, that brings good things in time, I believe.

  2. Man cattleyas are a finicky beast. I bought one from Lowe’s and i repotted it when it had new roots. It hated the new repot, stopped growing and looked yellow. After like 8 months of this, I put it back in its original pot, put sphagnum moss on it and now it is thriving. New pseudobulbs are getting big, it’s green, putting out new roots. Living its best life. So now my lesson is, keep it in its old pot lol.
