Some of my cacti blooms have started to pop in my garden today and much to my dismay they were filled with beetles who were loving on the nectar (and maybe each other too!). I assume this is somewhat normal but I have probably 25 more blooms coming soon and curious if this is what I should expect! I don’t typically see beetles among the pests in my garden

They are a type of scarab beetle that feed on the pollen. I see them every year but so far my pricky pear cacti don’t seem phased. https://www.bugguide.net/node/view/38180#food

lol how ironic i just scrolled down from a post about this in another sub — they’re friends! and they love nopales. good pollinators who are appreciating the native habitat you’re maintaining for them <3

Very normal. The wild prickly pear flowers are also full of them.
