I just don’t like this method. It’s far too uncontrolled.
You would achieve better results using a ground anchor (like for a dog leash, etc.) and tying the branches down using the guy wire method.
You’ll have far more control over exactly how much the branches get bent what direction they get bent and won’t have to worry about the weight moving
There’s also the paranoid in me that worries about heavy winds and the weights starting to oscillate, and that leading to repetitive oscillating stress stresses that lead to a broken branch
