
Pictured from left to right is my zurek starter (a tasty, Polish sour soup), my sourdough starter, and a loaf of bread currently proofing that I made with the sourdough starter. Not pictured is a jug of apple juice that’s also fermenting in the cabinet!
Yeast is an incredibly important thing to have around for making bread and other fermented products such as alcohol (which has incredible value for a homesteader). If you know what yeast it is and how it works, you can make yourself a supply of it out of thin air!!! (And a little water and sugar).
Feel free to ask questions about any of the magic going on here! Everybody should know how to ferment!!

I want to plant some grain this year so I can make my own flour too. Any tips or recommendations?
