As you’re likely preparing your garden for the season, we couldn’t help but invite Christie to share about her passion for gardening as well as some of her top tips and tricks.

What do you enjoy most about gardening?

When my kids were little, gardening was something we loved doing together. During quarantine, we found ourselves back in the garden, growing so many vegetables that we had enough to share with local food pantries. Whether young or grown, it’s where we’ve had our best conversations. These days, it keeps me grounded and relaxed when my busy schedule and the world around me feel overwhelming.

Are you able to share about your Bridgehampton greenhouse?

It’s always spring in my greenhouse. Even on the grayest winter day, I can step inside and pick fresh oranges, lemons, or limes. I can trim my roses and, when spring arrives, start my seeds—getting an early taste of the magic and miracles the season always brings!

What do you like to grow?

Vegetables, berries, tomatoes, basil, zinnias, sunflowers, cosmos, peonies, and dahlias are among my top favorites.

Do you have any advice for someone who feels intimidated by gardening?

Just give it a try. Sun, water, and love—lots of love! I talk and sing to my plants, and they don’t hold it against me!

Are there any budget-friendly gardening tips you swear by?

Cherry tomatoes and basil on sourdough toast with a sprinkle of salt and pepper—the taste of summer! And fresh herbs in anything—from avocado toast or tossed into salads—makes everything taste like a real chef prepared it.

Is there one reason why some people find gardening difficult?

You have to stay consistent with the watering—not too much, not too little. They need you to show up for them, and when you do, they’ll reward you with a generous bounty.
