Originally wanted to remove the rocks and pavers and plant trees and ground cover for greenery and privacy. Sadly, its next to the fence and the water meter is right there so trees or planting into the ground directly is apparently a no go. What else can I plant to combat all this dreadful grey? South facing, gets full sun for the most part of the day in Western Sydney NSW.

Kangaroo paw. Some varieties can get to 2m.

If you want something bushy, ficus flash – keep them in pots though to keep them manageable.

cactus (not euphorbia though). Love pots, love the heat and sun in summer, need little care and water, and will look great if you pick a mix that look good together.

Cordylines. Get one with nice foliage. 👌

  5. You could put trellis or metal grid panels along the fence and grow Australian native wisteria, you could add tall planters and fill with trailing Australian native flowering ground cover. I have a few half wine barrels with geraniums growing up cone trellis and native flowering ground covers trailing over the sides. wine barrels can also take larger plants than pots. Also look at trellis planter combo’s which are rectangular planters with trellis already attached. You can also get hooks to hanger over the top of the fence for hanging baskets. I have gone with natives so you don’t have to worry about watering constantly.
