Let's see peas tend to die off if days are mid 80s and higher, and this year we had most of March in the 80s here and even hit 90s, yeah peas were back in Feb with protecting against cold nights. You can't protect against heat as effectively as cold, especially when almost every day is over their temp limit. You can shade cloth and use misters to deal with a day or two, or even if you have a string of days you can mist for a period of like an hour, and this also requires fans to move the cool mist around, but this is a limited technique that works best when it's dry and there isn't disease pressure that tends to happen in higher humidity.
I can do that here with some crops in my garden, in our dry summers or even in the spring for limited durations. But with a bit of the country projected to have a warmer than avg. spring, it's time to put away cool weather crops other than things that can handle warmer temps like various lettuce types, or Asian greens bred for heat which will still do well in cool temps, just not a string of days where it doesn't rise above 55F.
And that's a reminder, PLANT LETTUCE. Succession planting. Just switch to warm weather varieties.
What about beets?
In socal we never even had frost this yr. Didn't feel like winter at all
Thanks!
Help, ants are eating stems at ground level of young cruciferrous transplants. What should I do, I’m losing plant after plant.. thank you for your time. Much appreciated. God bless!
So I shouldnt have started my 40 cucumber plants in februari, somehow I noticed that.. after a while.
I'm in zone 9B and last year and this year…most of my seeds came up and then the rollie pollies ate the young leaves!😢 I hate to use sluggo! But here I go!
Love videos like this, I’m starting my first garden this year and planting many of these!
One video series I haven’t seen from you would be how to harvest all of these. I’m not sure if you have them and I haven’t seen them, but having been a content binger watching all I can from you over the last 3 months, I don’t think I’ve seen much on harvesting outside of your potatoes in grow bags trick.
Would love to see you harvest these. I have no clue how to harvest my peas I planted for example, and I haven’t seen a fully grown pea plant to know if it’ll be easy or if I’ll have to google to figure out when and how 😅😂
Im actually really surprised you get seeds off of Amazon
No I'm in Tennessee and I thought it was finally safe to plant stuff outside yesterday, and then last night it got down to 38. I know it's not freezing but what the heck?? My corns were started inside and they are 6 inches tall. It's freakin April 6 I don't understand anymore 😭 my 36 tulips look dead too. It's April 6!
Hey, Millennial. I'm gen x but have only gotten into growing in the past several years. I started some zucchini and squash indoors, along with some toms, a couple of weeks ago. I've been putting them in a small greenhouse during the day and warmer nights. It's " blackberry winter" now in upstate SC. I bring them in when its in the forties. Learned some things from ya and got confirmation on others. Thanks for sharing!
I could have used the info in this video a month ago lol started everything at the same time. I'm a zone 8 also
There are still very cold days ahead. I don’t think you should plant before mothers day.
Oh my tyvm! I learned so much
Beautiful! My 8yos class recently got some painted lady caterpillars and raised them in class, however, the teacher was going out of state for the spring break and needed someone to keep the chrysalids in case they eclosed. Of course nobody wanted to take them but me lmbo (thank goodness lol). But the first one literally just eclosed and we've still got 6 more days out of school and idk what in the world to do lol!! I wasn't expecting it to be this fast lol! There's 6 total too lol. His teacher said if i needed to release them to do so, but that if i could help them make it until the kids were able to release them that would be better and i agree but I've only ever needed to keep my monarchs or fritillaries alive for just a couple days, 3 at the most lol so I'm kinda freaking out! My son experiences releasing butterflies all the time at home so he's not as excited as the other students are and i really want them to be able to see and experience the process but at the same time i care deeply for our little fluttering friends and want to do whatever is best for them.. what would you do in this situation Susan?!? I guess i could try to film it all if i have to release them, but its not really as magical feeling lol. Any suggestions lol? Thank you in advance! Majority of the things i now know about host plants and cats/butterflies is because of you and your channel anyway lol and its always much appreciated! ❤
I want to start planting so badly but we are redoing my garden area and have been waiting on the workmen to level the land first. 😢 it will be amazing and more permanent once finished, but I feel like I am already falling so behind. 😭 i at least got my bare root strawberries planted.
Just curious, have you ever thought about having a small beehive? I wonder what area of flowers they need to sustain themselves. My mother replaced her grass with clover and this is something I'm considering for pollinators too. Great video, thank you!
If there isn’t any wind to pollinate, can’t just use a fan on low for an hour facing the corn
No offense, bro. But you guys don’t have a clue what a real winter is. We had a real winter this year and broke records for snowfall. What you’re doing down there in April we’re doing at the end of May. Keep in mind viewers from all zones may be watching these.
Good job! Thanks. Hi Dale!
Anthony, I love your videos! But in all of the videos I've seen, you start your plants in the little seed trays but when you take them outside to transplant, they're in bigger pots. Can you please do a video on how and when you repot your plants? Specifically tomatoes
