SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) -The skies got a little extra colorful in Springfield Saturday.

Presented by the Springfield Sister Cities Association, the Cherry Blossom Kite and Piñata Festival was held at the Springfield Botanical Gardens on Saturday morning.

Attendees were encouraged to bring their kites or were given the opportunity to build and decorate their own, and kids were able to take a swing at multiple Piñata displays with a build-your-own Mini Piñata station on hand.

There were also live cultural performances and even a mini-market featuring Japanese and Mexican snacks to celebrate Springfield’s sister cities in Isesaki, Japan, and Tlaquepaque, Mexico.

“It’s important because it celebrates our sister city relationships with Isesaki, Japan, and Tlaquepaque, Mexico. And it brings a great cultural opportunity to Springfield for people to be able to engage with cultures that maybe they don’t get to engage with every day,” said Lisa Bakerink, executive director of Springfield Sister Cities Association.
