Looking for some advice.

The edge of my patio the slabs are all uneven, lifting and loose, and there is a 0.7m drop to the lower slabs. I have a toddler, so need to find some way to protect this area.

It is a rental property, so can't do any major works. I have raised this with with the landlord and they aren't going to do anything about it.

Any suggestions welcome.

Well, landlord isn’t going to fix. One option is to have the area deemed “uninhabitable” and fight with the LL — or — do something yourself. It looks like the upper area has a “fence” — I would maybe restrict the toddler to the upper area — maybe a playpen — or other items can make this area safe.

The cause is some of the fill under it was not compacted fully, was washed out of the water outlet below, or just deteriorated over time. Those stones need to be pulled up. More fill is added and compacted until it is level, then put the bricks back and redo the cement grout.

I would not expect this from a tenant unless the landlord is going to pay.

Sledge Hammer remove all stones & replace it with cement
