FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — A bicyclist was killed in a crash on Monday along Plantation Gardens Drive in Gateway, where neighbors say tragedies like this are rare.
Fort Myers police are investigating the deadly crash that happened just after 12:30 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Plantation Gardens Drive and Commerce Lakes Drive. Investigators are still working to determine what led to the crash.
WINK News was at the scene, where a heavy police presence blocked off part of the road as officers investigated. Remains of the crash were still visible, including a piece of a car left behind at the scene.
A charcoal gray Audi with a cracked windshield was seen leaving the area. Police have not confirmed any details about the vehicle involved.
The area is near several communities where people often walk and bike. Neighbors said it’s rare to see an accident like this in the quiet Fort Myers neighborhood.
Police have not released the identity of the bicyclist at this time.
