Seeing suspicious growth on multiple established roses (Drift, Belinda’s Dream and Mutabilis) in Austin and looking to confirm RRD. Early in the season I was thinking/ hoping it was a stress response to iron lockout but fear its disease.

Symptoms:

  • Witches’ broom / dense clustered growth
  • Strange morphology: Distorted, congested new growth
  • Showing up across multiple plants but isolated to only a 3/4 acre portion of the property

What I’m not clearly seeing is the classic red growth (except maybe on the Mutabilis.)
No herbicide use.

I manage landscapes professionally, so trying to be measured here before pulling dozens plants.

Photos attached — does this read as Rose Rosette Disease to you?

Would you remove immediately, watch closely and/ or send to AgriLife Lab?

  1. Yep. That’s it. I’ve got it here, too. I’ve pulled out two plants and will likely lose two more. No more roses in those beds.
