Recently moved into a new house, with two trees, a (dwarf) ginkgo and weeping blue atlas cedar. Both are planted ~6” too deep. They are planted in close proximity to each other. I cleared the soil out a bit to find the root flare, with plans to remove more. Leaving them permanently dug out isn’t an option as it’s a small flower bed area in a city so I can’t feather it out.

Anything I can do besides wait to dig them out and replant in the fall? Any tips on timing?

Would it be possible to just ground layer the ginkgo?
