Volunteer workdays at the McKinleyville Botanical Garden in Hiller Park take place the second Fridays and fourth Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. April through October. Rain cancels these workdays.
This small garden features plants that attract pollinators, birds and people. Volunteers get hands-on experience with the native species especially, and can connect with other nature lovers.
Current maintenance at the gardening is focusing on weed control. Bring a bucket and tool, or just your enthusiasm.
Once volunteers have helped on at least one day, they can work whenever they like at the garden.
The McKinleyville Botanical Garden is under the auspices of Parks and Recreation Department at McKinleyville Community Services District. To get to the garden, go west on Hiller Road to the parking lot for Hammond Trail, the soccer field and the dog park. The garden is adjacent to the children’s playground.
