The Coastal Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 20 in the Shallotte Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, located at 5070 Main St. in Shallotte. During the meeting, attendees will hear a presentation titled “Gardening in the South — Four Ways to Make Your Trees Happy and Two Errors to Avoid.”
A 20-minute video by treecologist and master arborist, Basil Camu, will be presented. This program is part of the “Gardening in the South” series from the JP Raulston Arboretum. It is a clear and succinct message about how to help trees live long, happy lives as part of the larger ecosystem. Basil Camu is the author of the popular book, “From Wasteland to Wonder.” Be prepared to be amazed by the wonder of trees.
The meeting will begin with a floral design workshop taught by member and Accredited Flower Show Judge, Bess Treadwell. The demonstration will highlight a special floral design that hangs in a frame and will be featured in the club’s upcoming flower show, Quilted Flowers (read more about the show in this edition).
Monthly club meetings are held September through May on the third Monday 9:30 a.m. at Shallotte Presbyterian Church. Guests are always welcome to attend. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in floral design, horticulture, home gardening and community service.
