My long weekend project was battling this 2m growth of native ginger that the previous owner let loose in the backyard.
We did get an Arborist to come to hack at the top and front roots away from the fence but he couldn’t do the roots at the fence as his machine had a guard that didn’t let him get to the fence (he also took care of the bird of paradise mothership in a previous post of mine….).
So I grabbed my gloves, shovel and mattock and went to work. This was my yield after an hour of back breaking…. I want throw these out of spite but I feel like some people might want these for some reason.
Any ideas how to tackle the rest of the roots would be much appreciated!

The mattock is the best tool for it, if yours is a bit old give it a sharpen and it’ll slice right through them
That’s a solid haul for an hour of work, I’d bag all of it rather than composting it, and just keep chasing every rhizome you can find, the smallest leftover piece will probably try to come back.
