MONTICELLO, Ill. — Are you a gardener looking to try something new this season? Have you considered a specialty garden? Find out the benefits of specialty gardens at the April Growing Community Program hosted by the DeWitt and Piatt Master Gardeners.

Specialty Gardens will be from noon to 1 p.m. on April 21 at the Piatt County Extension Office, 210 S. Market St., in Monticello. Participants will learn how to design themed gardens such as salsa, pizza, herb, and tea gardens. Master Gardener volunteers will share tips on selecting plants, garden layouts, and growing techniques. Attendees will start a variety of herb seeds to take home and grow.

“Spice up your garden and plant the seeds of flavor,” says Beth Miglin, horticulture program coordinator. “Specialty gardens are easy to plant and fit well in raised beds, containers, or small yards.”

The program is free, but participants are asked to register by April 20 at go.illinois.edu/Growing.

University of Illinois Extension provides equal opportunities in programs and employment. If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate, please contact 217-762-2191. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time for meeting your access needs.
