Hello! I'm involved in a pilot program for street shade trees and self watering boxes and can pick any 2 of these trees for my front yard and have them maintained for a year or so.
I live SW and my front yard faces east.
I currently have an Arizona or Velvet ash (not sure which) that's on its last leg and a ~10 year old Pin Oak that's doing well but not as tall as it would be because a big limb from the ash decapitated it during the 2023 ice storm.
I'd like a Bald Cypress but I feel like my yard is too dry, I think of them more as riparian trees. Correct me if I'm wrong! I don't know anything about Gum Bumelias. Which 2 trees should I pick and why? Thanks!

Osage orange & chinkapin. Strong drought tolerant shade trees
Chinquapin oak and Burr oak.
They’re both food sources for wildlife (insects, birds, and furry critters alike), very drought tolerant once established and very cold hardy.
Definitely not bald cypress. They need a ton of water.
Chinkapin Oak and Burr Oak. They can grow fast if you give them a drip irrigation weekly (not nearly as much water as cypress!)
