Just wanted to share a first attempt at a SFG. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated. 🙂

My viewpoint is that SFG is far too aggressive with spacing on many veggies, and it’s a really unfortunate model for someone new to gardening. For example, 9 onions in 1 sq foot is going to give you very sad results, as will 16 carrots. (To be clear, you will technically get output with this spacing, but it will be “baby-sized” output that will probably disappoint you.)

Space things out so that each plant has access to a wider swath of nutrients and water while you’re learning. I would do 4/sqf on onions and 9/sqf on carrots, and I’d give the peppers more space between plants. Put lettuce or other leafy greens that enjoy some summer shade in between the peppers. Peas should be grown in a narrower row closer to the trellis; the plants 1′ off the trellis aren’t going to find it to climb. Use the remaining part of their sqf grid to plant something else (marigolds could work).
