We moved into a home in January where the previous owners were avid gardeners. The whole front yard is covered in perennial plants made for the climate along with a 27×8 ft railroad tie bed (I plan to use it for pumpkins!) and an apple tree. In the back are 6 raised planter beds and some various plants along the fence lines.
I’ve never really grown anything. My mom had plants growing up but never had me help with them, and they were plant it and forget it plants. Pic 7 shows the rhubarb growth on March 23 when I first noticed it and cleared away the dead past growth. Pic 6 is from March 29 and pics 3-5 are from this past Thursday (4/2). Today I harvested 1/3 of the crop as seen in pics 1 and 2. I cut it up after cleaning and made some rhubarb pie!
I’ve never even had rhubarb before and I can confidently say it might become my favorite edible plant because dang these are good. Waiting for the pie to cool right now. I’ve gotten 15 seed types for various veggies from local libraries and bought a bunch more and reading soooo much. Cheers to seeing how much I can produce in this garden! I inherited such a good space, I feel like I just have to give it my all. I feel like a witch doing magic, gardening is incredible.
Honestly all I did to this is water it twice and clear away the dead growth, I’m amazed. I’m so happy to find that they had planted rhubarb at some point prior, it really motivated me to put in my all.

That looks awful young to me but I only have experience with red stemmed varieties and typically harvest them when they’re 4x as thick as that, in late June.
If it’s an older plant you can dig up the rootstalk and tear it into 3 or more plants next winter.
