Anyone know what’s growing in my new lawn? WA state
Landscapers finished a few weeks ago, there were issues with thorns but they supposedly killed them off. What are these? They’re pretty easy to rip out (Washington state)
As others have said, Horsetail. It’s an ancient plant and honestly I give it mad respect. I like it, I think it looks cool as long as it is far, far away from my property. Unfortunately, one side of my house has them all over.
You will not win or beat them. They grow underground and are segmented. If you think they are easy to pull I assure you, you are not getting it all. They have spores and will flourish forever just as they have been for 100 million years.
All you can do is continue to pull each and everyone you see. This will be the rest of your life.

Horsetail. Good freaking luck. I’m terrified of it reaching our yard. There are a bunch of different methods for getting rid of it, but it’s a years long process. [Here’s one article about it.](https://solvepestproblems.oregonstate.edu/weeds/horsetail)

Had it in mine until last year. Ancient survivors and thriving in bad/acidic ground. What did miracles was 1) keep on picking them as deep as you can, 2) to buy lava flour (ground lava stone) and spread this around as per the instruction, water it after.
The lava flour will alter the acidity of your ground, and make it less hospitable to this weed.

Horsetail
River horsetail (equisetum fluviatile) according to the Plantin app. ETA: And it’s poisonous to horses and livestock.
