Spring is here and it’s time to dust off your gardening tools and start planning your spring and summer garden. Yolo County residents are invited to learn about gardening basics with Treva Valentine, a UC Master Gardener, on Saturday, April 25, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Hanna and Herbert Bauer Memorial Community Garden in Woodland.
This free, interactive class is presented by the Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA). It will cover topics such as soil preparation, planting strategies and timing for summer crops. No prior gardening experience required, and participants will have an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the class. This class is open to all and is part of HHSA’s ongoing commitment to helping residents incorporate more fresh fruits and vegetables in their diets and live healthier lives.
Pre-registration is required by Friday, April 24. To register, contact Nick Gazda at Nick.Gazda@YoloCounty.gov or (530) 666-8429.
Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather and wear shoes that can get dirty. The garden is located at 137 N. Cottonwood St. in Woodland, behind and along the west side of the HHSA Bauer Building.
HHSA offers community garden classes for free throughout the year. Interested residents can learn more about the garden activities and classes by visiting www.YoloCounty.gov/Community_Garden. Please note that in the event of steady rain, the class will be moved indoors.
