A lush, thriving lawn results from proper care delivered at the right time, and horticultural specialists at Meadow Mania are encouraging homeowners to start their lawn maintenance straightaway. They stated: “As the sun comes out and we start to shake off the winter chill, it’s time to give your lawn a little love and attention to prepare it for the vibrant growth of spring.”
Implementing an easy measure now can provide your grass with a strong foundation for the summer months to come.
These gardening tasks are straightforward to complete, require minimal time and effort, and deliver results that enhance the appearance and quality of your garden.
We have outlined the tasks you need to complete this month below:
How to achieve a green and healthy lawn
The specialists advised beginning with “gentle tasks”, and remarkably, mowing features among them. April isn’t too early to start mowing, assuming the conditions are right.

However, gardeners should consider weather patterns, grass growth, and the general condition of their lawn before proceeding.
“Mowing should ideally be done when the grass is dry, and the weather is mild, as grass begins to grow when temperatures rise above 5°C,” according to agricultural and groundcare dealer George Browns.
Should all criteria be met, the lawn specialists at Meadow Mania encourage you to adjust your mower higher than normal to promote steady, healthy growth without subjecting the grass to undue stress.
Refrain from cutting too short, as the emerging blades still require protection as they recover from winter dormancy.

The specialist explained: “First things first, take a good look at your lawn. After the winter winds and rain, it might be a bit cluttered with leaves, twigs, and other debris.
“Grab your rake and clear everything from the lawn-this will allow your grass to breathe and grow without any obstructions. Plus, clearing the debris helps prevent mould and fungal issues from developing over time.”

They further suggest addressing weed and moss management, aerating and scarifying, applying a spring lawn feed, and overseeding.
How to tackle moss
Eliminating moss is essential to keep your lawn looking its best, and spring is the ideal time to tackle this. According to experts at the Grass People, “Moss loves to grow in moist and shaded areas.
“Particularly areas of poor grass health, which show themselves through compacted soil and poor drainage.” They advise using a Feed, Weed & Mosskiller to combat moss and weeds while feeding your lawn in a single application.
This treatment lasts several weeks, encouraging grass growth while eliminating common weeds such as dandelions.
Subsequently, overseed the sparse sections of your lawn to aid recovery and thickening, and to stop weeds from reappearing.
